Theme: Black Sociology Against the Assault on Racial Knowledge
August 2023
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Dr. Beverly Lindsay and Dr. Yolanda Moses are both recipients of Fulbright Fellowships.  At the 2023 annual Fulbright Awards Dinner and Ceremony, Dr. Lindsay chatted with Dr. Anthony Fauci about her Fulbright in Mozambique. (She met him initially at the 2022 Ceremony).   Dr. Fauci is known for his leadership with the global Covid-19 pandemic – that led to his becoming the 2023 Co-Fulbright Prize honoree. In the early 2000s, Dr. Fauci helped spearhead President George W. Bush’s “President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief -PEPFAR,” whereby Dr. Fauci visited several African countries deeply affected by HIV/AIDS.   Dr. Lindsay shared comments regarding her 2007 Fulbright in Mozambique.  During that time, she briefly voiced comments to First Lady Laura Bush who was representing President Bush’s PEPFAR initiative.  Approximately 25 million lives have been saved in multiple countries as a result of PEPFAR.  This University’s Institute on Women and University Leadership in Conflict, Post-Conflict, and Transitional Societies had women leaders from Mozambique and South Africa – nations greatly affected by HIV/AIDS.
